So I've just started playing this after my FFXIV subscription ran out (loved that game though) I'm just wondering cause I've never played FFXI before but, what are the major differences between this game and FFXIV also how is the game when it comes to leveling speeds? Really looking forward to playing this game too!

Also I'm really looking at the BRD, RDM or COR as the class I want to main so I was just wondering the positives and negatives towards each class.

/welcome!

rdm is better at soloing things than the other two. rdm in party is used for backup healing lower levels, and refresh is always welcome later on. debuffs are always good

brd and cor play sorta similar. both party focused. both usually designated as the member of the party who runs out to find the next mob to kill (we often call it the puller or fisherman). brd has the more mature, reliable buffs. cor has more interestimg buffs (exp buff especially) and is also a competant DD with marksmanship, but it's ammo can be expensive to upkeep (tho bard songs and rdm spells can be expensive too)

xiv and xi are much different, and usually the difference in whichever aspect boils down to xi being slower. fights are slower, exp is slower, and especially travel is slower. youll be doing a lot of running. the world in xi is huge and travel via boats, etc is real time. meaning youll have to wait for them to arive, and wait for them to travel. there is very little teleporting at the start of the game, but there will be some later.

fighting is slow, and usually focuses on a single mob at a time, rather than a group. soloing is a challenge and will require a lot of time spent /heal ing. combat focuses on autoattack (unless blackmage) and skills are menu based and have long cooldowns.

while there is very little instanced dungeon-style content, partying becomes the core content after level 10. party structure in xi is much, much more flexable than xiv. jobs arent assigned set tank/heal/dps roles. teamwork pays off in spades and youll notice a huge difference in a group that works well together.

dying sucks. you lose exp and it can drop you down a level if you leveled very recently. you also get sent back to your homepoint which can waste a lot of time.

all that said, ill finally say that progression in xi is so much more rewarding than xiv or most other mmos. ive done a poor job making xi sound fun, but theres a reason so many of us have come back to xi on this server. i hope you enjoy it. the first 10 levels can be slow and frustrating, but the game picks up quick. give a /shout in town for the MogHouse linkshell and there will be plenty of people willing to guide and help

As an extra note I would personally recommend brd to start with out of those three. Until you get settled and have a reliable way of making money, rdm with it's spells and cor with it's bullets will burn your wallet. Brd is very desired for parties and is fairly cheap to lvl compared to those.

If you are playing today shoot me a /tell in game. I'll be playing on and off all day on Squeak. I don't mind helping you gettin up to speed on everything. Like slowbro said this is definitely a much more rewarding experience than xiv
