TBH I don't believe SMN burn pts in Bhaflau Thickets shouldn't really be touched until xp areas open up. Otherwise you'll screw over not just an but everyone who wants a turban which remains affordable due amn burn parties. Otherwise only other methods would be BST 2hr xp sessions.

If the damage was appropriate for level 99 mobs only, it would be a non issue - but Summoner 1-69 is getting hit as a result, which is not the problem.

Exactly. Why nerf smn at all levels when the accepted problem is confined to certain higher end content?

I did feel like 800-1200 double slaps at level 50 was a bit much, it was sure fun though! On top of being able to make skill chains now

Please do tell me more about how the problem was confined to higher end content...

And you didn't read Dusk's post? Double slap has a 60 second cd. In a decent party that is not as good you might think; it's just a big number that when converted into dps becomes sub-par. 1200/60 is only 20dps. DD with proper support can achieve significantly more than this.

its almost like youre trying to compare different classes with different roles and different mechanics as if theyre the same...

I was simply saying double slap is not op in terms of damage at all as some people are trying to suggest. You can't tell if something is weak or strong if you don't use a comparison.

SMN is a very rigid job whose damage/potency of bloodpact doesn't scale much with magic skill and gear and in the typical xp party support buffs won't improve damage/potency either. The question then is should smn be balanced around performance in an average xp party (but then will under-perform in an efficient party set-up) or if it should be balanced around performance in an efficient party set-up? If you think the former then the nerf is justified but if you think the latter then even pre-nerf smn was not a top job for xp parties.

Guess I can weigh in a bit on this since I'm 75 SMN...

SMN adjustment I feel was pretty adequate, it still holds it's own damage wise without being OP. I personally feel as a whole this server is easier than retail in everything I've done thus far. I personally appreciate things getting a bit tougher. BST should be next but that's a whole other topic in itself.

I think to put it in perspective, im currently in a Terrigan party as pld, and with Taco, Pro3, and defender, my def is 612, and yet Tail blow, brain crush etc all do more damage to me than Shiva, 200-250 compared to 150-200 to Shiva. Post nerf that’s stronger than a well geared, fed, and fully defence mode pld... plus dishing out 400-600 slaps against incredibly tough xp level mobs... so how will those poor summoners ever cope!

SMN is probably the single most versatile job in FFXI. In an "efficient" exp party we aren't spamming double slap/predator claws we're using hastega and healing just as well as a WHM or RDM because we're filling that role. The low level Rage focused smn in an exp party only exists on Nasomi because the BPs were overtuned. They are much closer to in era retail now.

IIRC pets have an innate damage taken reduction that you don't get as a PLD.
