I've seen relentless whining about changes that have been made over the past few months. It's very apparent most of you never started playing FFXI when it was released. There were numerous changes over the years and the player base dealt with it by adapting.

The main bulk of Nasomi players are self-selected from the original FFXI fanbase, those that gave up on the game because of those changes you are speaking of, and felt the feel of the game had been lost. This should be fairly obvious, since if they had had no serious problems with the changes and still felt it was the same quality game as the one they had started playing.... then they would still be playing Retail, and not Nasomi.

They all came here to ESCAPE the mentality of the changes that made no sense, and slowly over time diminished the game into something that was meant more for casuals, much the same way WoW has went over the years. I hope you don't really think the bulk of Nasomi players want to watch as the same mistakes and changes get added over time, almost a mirror of how it happened in the Retail game.

I just want to be sure I understand, because I don't know how end-gamers use RNG (I've kited OWNMs and I know it's much harder with RNG now).

Let's say in a merit party setting, what has changed for you guys is that RNG must behave like a BLM and watch aggro or they annoy all the melees that must move? Is that the problem?

It does - Except there's really no way to make yalm distance influence the ranged formula without being a massive nerf to some part of the game for RNG. People will survive. They'll level other jobs. It just makes RNG fairly useless for LS's with the flexibility to use other jobs, and that's a shame because it used to be a fun job.

Maseki acts like people are quitting, or predicting a mass suicide or something. All they said was that Nas ruined a previously fun job, and Nas/Nab lied about it while he did it. That's all true. Sorry if that bothers someone to correctly talk about the situation.

Fair points. I played RNG on retail but only post-adjustment, and I don't have RNG leveled here but I feel like it should be changed so that only the ranged attack damage is effected by distance. If you're missing it's a problem. If you're doing 10% less damage because you're not in optimal range -- that's not so bad.

I disagree that RNG isn't useful though. The two events where we used RNG most often on retail were Jailer of Love and Odin. RNG will still be fine on JoL and Odin isn't implemented yet, but there's little reason to suspect that RNG won't be good against it once it is (he shouldn't be moving). Other than that we never really used it on retail. Kirin should be straight tanked once you have good DDs, and it's not a necessity for any other HNM.

I agree that this is a nerf that hit them hard in merit parties. That's unfortunately true. So if Nas wants RNG to be able to merit effectively, this change should be adjusted. I'm trying to remember on retail how often I saw RNGs in merit parties but I can't remember bringing them very often if at all. Merit parties for me were definitely WAR, SAM, DRG, DRK and pre-ToAU, MNK. But maybe I just didn't have enough RNG friends on retail.

Sure.. You can either watch aggro and thus... be easily replaced by a slew of other DD that do it much better, or you can not watch aggro and constantly move the mob around and have to readjust and be easily replaced by a slew of other DD that do it much better.

You can pick which option.

Maseki really missed an opportunity with this thread title to be like ...

"Some of you only play with good RNGs, and it shows"

I don't think Maseki follows the popular memes of Twitter tho.

Thanks for answering! Well, that's fair, although I think the community is not being nice to mages/tanks with this behavior, but I guess classic MMOs just weren't balanced with this "just fill the roles and it will go well" mentality.

You mean merit parties? Yeah, less desirable jobs are going to seek for longer or need to party with their LS. If I'm going to spend two hours doing something with people I don't know, I'm not going to knowingly make it less efficient for the benefit of a stranger.
