FWIW, if you get a few THF and a meat shield of some kind together with a SMN (or /SMN post-62), you can rock pretty hard at the right camps (I mean, it's no 50k/hr, but 20k/hr or so is definitely doable with a PL or two). More support is always better of course, but even just a /COR or /BRD or something can help a ton as long as you're at least getting Rolling Thunder on all the DDs. Great way to gather some friends and get those generally-neglected-from-invites jobs like THF, PLD, SMN up. Constantly TA'ing onto your friends have having the birbs steal their mithkabobs/crab sushi is half the fun, highly recommend it (that, and the hilarity of trying to work with 4x THF to line up sneak attack is totally worth).
I don't think anyone's saying a well geared thief who knows how to play their job on a piercing weak mob is a bad choice by any means in a certain level bracket. All we're saying is that there IS a certain stigma regarding thief, regardless of their actual effectiveness within a party, and that its the last job you want to be giving others even more reason not to invite you. The issue is, the OP even states he's aware of this, yet spits in the face of it as if he doesn't have to abide by an issue he's already well aware of. Dude's got serious "victim syndrome" and honestly shouldn't be playing a game that involves coordinating with 5 other people at once.
